An Exercise in Patience

April is an exercise in patience on the farm. I’ve been storing up energy all winter (aka calories), and as soon as April arrives I’m ready to burst from hibernation with a flurry of activity: plant here, seed there, plow here, till there. Yet every year I forget that Spring weather is not linear and the temperature does not simply rise 1 degree per day until it’s 70 degrees and May. No -  Spring jumps forward then suddenly stops, steps backwards and waits a while, hurdles forward, and then pauses to ponder its next move. Spring weather is a reminder that though I like to think otherwise, I am not in control (a lesson I’m simultaneously learning in early parenthood). Human-made schedules be damned - I can only plant when nature allows, or else suffer the consequences.

With that said, our seedling house is brimming with plants waiting for warmer weather later this week! Broccolis, lettuces, salad greens, and carrots are ready for life outdoors, and I have my fingers crossed that we’re done with snow until December.

CSA ENROLLMENT GOING STRONG!

CSA Enrollment has ramped up the past week, and we have less than 10 spots remaining in our Spring CSAs as well as Braintree Summer CSA. You can enroll in our CSA programs directly on our website, and enjoy the benefits all season long!

Thanks for reading, and I’ll keep you posted as we approach the start of the Hingham Farmers’ Market on May 5th!

Best,
Adam
